ID Logistics and PUMA inaugurate automated logistics hub in France

ID Logistics and PUMA have officially inaugurated an automated logistics platform in Vendenheim, France, marking a new stage in their decade-long partnership and strengthening the sportswear company’s distribution operations in the French market.

The 41,000-square-metre facility, located in the Bas-Rhin department, was officially inaugurated on October 21 and is dedicated to PUMA’s business-to-business (B2B) operations in France. Developed by property developer and construction company LCR – Les Constructeurs Réunis, the site has been operational since late 2025, when ID Logistics transferred its activities from the previous facility in Landersheim.

The investment is designed to support growing distribution volumes, improve order processing efficiency and accommodate fluctuations in demand. A key operational objective is to process priority orders within four hours, allowing the logistics provider to respond more quickly to the requirements of PUMA’s business partners.

The inauguration also marks ten years of cooperation between the two companies, which renewed their logistics partnership for a further six years at the end of 2025.

Automated systems support faster order fulfilment

At the Vendenheim facility, ID Logistics manages the receiving, storage, picking, shipping and returns of PUMA footwear, apparel and accessories destined for the French market.

The operation is designed to handle up to 57,000 order lines per day, with order preparation schedules adjusted according to different priority levels. This flexibility is particularly relevant to the fashion and sportswear sectors, where seasonal peaks and changes in demand can create significant variations in distribution volumes.

The warehouse incorporates an AutoStore automated storage and retrieval system integrated with the Reflex Warehouse Management System (WMS). The installation includes 15 order-picking stations and 12 product induction stations, supporting the movement of goods through the facility.

The AutoStore system currently provides an initial storage capacity of 70,000 bins, with the possibility of expanding to more than 85,000 bins by 2030. This planned scalability is intended to accommodate changes in PUMA’s distribution requirements as its business develops.

By combining automated storage technology with warehouse management software, the facility is designed to improve responsiveness while maintaining the capacity to handle changing order volumes.

“Ten years after the start of our collaboration with PUMA, the inauguration of Vendenheim marks a new milestone in our partnership,” said Frédéric Grenier, Managing Director of ID Logistics France.

Grenier highlighted the facility’s ability to meet supply chain responsiveness requirements while incorporating capacity for future expansion.

Workforce development and environmental features

The new logistics platform employs approximately 100 people on average, with staffing levels increasing to around 150 during peak operational periods.

Employees previously working at the Landersheim facility have transferred to Vendenheim, while additional local recruitment has supported the development of the workforce. ID Logistics has also provided training to prepare employees for the automated systems and operational processes introduced at the site.

Alongside its technological capabilities, the facility incorporates several environmental features and has achieved BREEAM Excellent certification.

These include LED lighting, energy consumption monitoring systems and a rooftop photovoltaic installation that generates electricity for on-site consumption. Electric vehicle charging facilities have also been installed.

The combination of automation, workforce training and building infrastructure forms part of the operational model established for the new distribution platform.

Partnership extended to support PUMA’s growth

The inauguration represents the latest development in a logistics partnership that began in 2016, when ID Logistics started supporting PUMA’s operations in France.

The move from Landersheim to Vendenheim was undertaken to accommodate the sportswear company’s growing business and changing retail distribution requirements. The six-year partnership renewal provides a framework for continued cooperation following the transition to the automated facility.

“Logistics performance is a key driver of our development in France,” said Christophe Cance, Managing Director, Southern Europe, PUMA.

Cance said the new platform strengthens PUMA’s ability to respond more quickly to business partners and support its long-term growth, while reflecting the cooperation established with ID Logistics over the past decade.

With the Vendenheim platform now officially inaugurated, the two companies have established an automated distribution operation designed to support PUMA’s existing French business while allowing for future increases in storage and order-processing requirements.
