2020 Bulkers appoints new CEO as company shifts to offshore operations

2020 Bulkers Ltd. has announced the appointment of Tom Babinski as its new Group Chief Executive Officer, replacing Lars-Christian Svensen as the company transitions from dry bulk shipping to anchor handling tug supply (AHTS) operations.

According to the company, Svensen has resigned as a consequence of the group’s strategic transformation, with Babinski assuming the CEO position with immediate effect.

The leadership change follows the conclusion of 2020 Bulkers’ former dry bulk business, which centred on the ownership and operation of a modern Newcastlemax fleet.

Leadership transition follows dry bulk exit

During Svensen’s tenure, the company operated and subsequently sold its Newcastlemax vessels, completing its previous dry bulk activities and preparing for a new business direction.

Reflecting on his departure, Svensen thanked the company’s board, shareholders and employees for their support throughout the period.

“It has been a privilege to lead 2020 Bulkers over the past years,” said Svensen.

He also expressed confidence in the company’s new direction, describing the conclusion of its dry bulk operations as the beginning of a different phase focused on anchor handling.

Magnus Halvorsen, Chair of the Board of Directors, acknowledged Svensen’s contribution to the company’s development and the sale of its former fleet.

The board also welcomed Babinski’s appointment, highlighting the importance of developing the company’s commercial platform as it establishes its AHTS operations.

New CEO to lead AHTS development

Babinski will take responsibility for leading the group’s new organisation as it builds its presence in the anchor handling sector.

The company’s strategic focus has shifted towards AHTS vessels, which provide specialised offshore support services, including anchor handling and towing operations.

“I am truly excited to join the Company as CEO and grateful for the trust placed in me,” said Babinski.

He added that he looked forward to working with customers, partners and stakeholders to develop the business and establish its market position.

The appointment marks a leadership change aligned with 2020 Bulkers’ transition from its former Newcastlemax dry bulk operations to its developing offshore support vessel business.
