Seacon Shipping agrees to acquire newly built oil and chemical tanker

Seacon Shipping Group Holdings has entered into an agreement to acquire a newly built oil and chemical tanker for US$19.6 million, as the Hong Kong-listed shipping company continues to modernise and expand its controlled fleet.
The agreement was signed on 4 November 2026 by Seacon Shipping Pte. Ltd., an indirect wholly owned subsidiary of the group, and Sanhe Jiaye Co., Ltd., a company incorporated in the Marshall Islands.
The vessel, currently named Jia Yue Ming Zhu and scheduled to be renamed Golden Canna, was built in October 2026 and has a gross tonnage of 4,981 GT. The company has not disclosed the vessel’s deadweight tonnage, shipbuilder or expected delivery date in the transaction announcement.
Acquisition structure and financing
Under the sale and purchase agreement, Seacon Shipping will pay an initial deposit of US$2.94 million, representing 15% of the purchase price, on the vessel’s delivery date.
The remaining US$16.66 million will be payable within 120 calendar days following delivery. Seacon Shipping Group has provided a guarantee to the seller covering payment of the outstanding balance.
The company expects to finance the acquisition through a combination of internal resources and external funding from financial or other institutions.
According to its regulatory filing, the purchase price was determined following arm’s-length negotiations between the parties, taking into consideration the vessel’s market valuation.
Fleet renewal and expansion strategy
Seacon Shipping said the acquisition forms part of its strategy to optimise its fleet by gradually replacing older controlled vessels with newer tonnage while expanding its shipping capacity.
The group expects the addition to improve its ability to respond to customer requirements and pursue further shipping and ship management opportunities.
Seacon Shipping operates in vessel transportation, chartering and ship management, with its fleet development strategy focused on maintaining vessel availability and improving the competitiveness of its maritime services.
The latest purchase would add recently constructed tanker capacity to the group’s controlled fleet, although the company has not specified the vessel’s intended trading routes or chartering arrangements.
The seller, Sanhe Jiaye Co., Ltd., is a Marshall Islands-incorporated company involved in vessel ownership and chartering activities. Seacon Shipping stated that the seller and its beneficial owners are independent third parties.
The acquisition constitutes a discloseable transaction under Chapter 14 of the Hong Kong Stock Exchange Listing Rules, as the applicable transaction size exceeds 5% but remains below 25% of the relevant regulatory thresholds.
The agreement represents a further step in Seacon Shipping’s fleet investment programme, with the vessel’s delivery and integration into the group’s operations still to be completed.
