Tuticorin Container Terminal reaches new container handling milestone

Tuticorin Container Terminal in India has reached a cumulative container throughput of 500,000 TEU since commencing operations in September 2024, marking a milestone in its first two years of activity.
The terminal operates at V.O. Chidambaranar Port in Tamil Nadu, supporting containerised cargo movements through India’s southeastern coastline. The latest milestone reflects the volume handled since the facility began operations rather than its annual throughput.
In announcing the achievement, Tuticorin Container Terminal highlighted the contribution of its employees, particularly women, who represent a significant part of its workforce and hold leadership responsibilities across several departments. The terminal recognised their role in supporting operations and reaching the cumulative handling milestone.
The terminal also acknowledged the continued cooperation of V.O. Chidambaranar Port Authority, vessel operators, shipping lines, customers and other stakeholders. Their involvement has supported the facility’s operations since its launch in 2024.
Having reached 500,000 TEU in cumulative throughput, Tuticorin Container Terminal enters its next phase of operations as part of the container-handling infrastructure serving V.O. Chidambaranar Port.
