Vow secures cruise ship wastewater treatment orders with further options

Norwegian environmental technology company Vow ASA, through its subsidiary Scanship, has secured firm orders worth €7.7 million to supply advanced wastewater purification systems for two newbuild cruise vessels at a major European shipyard.

The agreement also includes options valued at €13.1 million for equipment deliveries to three additional vessels, bringing the potential combined value of the confirmed orders and options to €20.8 million.

The initial orders are firm, with the first equipment deliveries expected in late 2027. The two cruise ships are scheduled to enter operation towards the end of 2030 and 2031, respectively.

Neither the European shipyard nor the cruise operator has been identified in the announcement.

Advanced wastewater treatment for new cruise vessels

Scanship will supply its Advanced Wastewater Purification systems, designed to treat wastewater generated aboard cruise ships in accordance with stringent maritime environmental requirements.

According to Vow, the technology will enable the vessels to purify their wastewater to meet the standards applicable in the Baltic Sea and Alaskan state waters, which the company identifies as among the most demanding requirements for maritime wastewater treatment.

The systems form part of Scanship’s broader portfolio of environmental technologies aimed at preventing marine pollution and improving waste management aboard vessels.

Gunnar Pedersen, CEO of Vow ASA, highlighted the continued relationship with the shipyard and cruise operator.

“Through this contract, we continue our long-standing cooperation with the shipyard and the cruise line, reinforcing our joint commitment to reliable and sustainable solutions,” said Pedersen.

Additional options could expand the agreement

Beyond the two confirmed vessels, the agreement provides options for wastewater treatment equipment for three additional cruise ships.

These optional deliveries have a combined potential value of €13.1 million, although they have not yet been converted into firm purchase orders.

If all three options are exercised, the total value of the agreement would increase to €20.8 million.

The latest order extends Scanship’s involvement in the cruise newbuilding market, where wastewater treatment and pollution prevention systems are important components of onboard environmental infrastructure.

For Vow, the confirmed contract secures additional equipment deliveries beginning in late 2027, while the remaining options represent potential future business rather than guaranteed orders.
