StormGeo has established a partnership with China Classification Society (CCS) to simplify the exchange and verification of vessel emissions data, strengthening its digital maritime services in the Chinese shipping market.

The agreement, announced on 5 November 2026, enables shipping companies using StormGeo’s s-Insight platform to share validated emissions data directly with CCS through an application programming interface (API). The connection is designed to improve data traceability and reduce the administrative work involved in preparing information for environmental compliance verification.

StormGeo, which operates within Alfa Laval’s Ocean Division, currently supports approximately 700 vessels in China with greenhouse gas emissions management and vessel performance services. The company intends to expand its presence in the market through additional technology development and industry partnerships.

The cooperation combines StormGeo’s maritime software capabilities with CCS’s experience in classification and verification services, creating a more integrated process for exchanging emissions information between shipping companies and their verifier.

Direct data exchange supports verification processes

Through the new interface, operators using s-Insight can transfer validated emissions information directly to CCS as part of their existing compliance procedures.

The system provides a structured digital connection between StormGeo’s environmental reporting tools and CCS’s verification services, helping reduce reliance on separate data exchanges and supporting more consistent information throughout the process.

Before the API was launched, CCS conducted on-site testing and evaluation of StormGeo’s systems, including their performance and security. According to the companies, the technology met the classification society’s requirements for interface adaptation and evaluation.

Espen Martinsen, Chief Commercial Officer at StormGeo, said the partnership forms part of the company’s long-term efforts to expand its capabilities and customer relationships in China.

“By combining StormGeo’s global technology and maritime expertise with CCS’s deep local knowledge and strong industry capabilities, we can deliver increasingly digital, integrated and automated solutions for data verification and environmental compliance,” said Espen Martinsen, Chief Commercial Officer at StormGeo.

Partnership supports StormGeo’s expansion in China

For CCS, the agreement provides a structured mechanism for receiving data from vessels already using StormGeo’s environmental reporting solutions.

Wei Chong, Manager of Software Development at CCS, said the cooperation would support the classification society’s wider digital development objectives and improve the delivery of emissions verification services to shipping companies.

The partnership also reflects StormGeo’s broader strategy of integrating vessel performance data with environmental compliance processes.

In May 2024, StormGeo announced a separate collaboration with Japanese classification society ClassNK to enable direct sharing of emissions data through its s-Insight platform. The latest agreement extends a similar digital approach to the Chinese market.

StormGeo has identified China as an important market for its maritime technology business, with the existing fleet of approximately 700 supported vessels providing a base for further expansion.

The companies have not disclosed the financial terms of the partnership or specific targets for additional vessels to be connected through the new interface.

The agreement establishes a direct digital link for emissions data exchange, while formal verification responsibilities remain with the classification society under the applicable regulatory requirements.
