OpenGate Capital has completed the acquisition of Maersk Training and its subsidiary Maersk H2S Safety Services from A.P. Moller–Maersk, bringing the global safety training and industrial safety services business under private equity ownership.

The transaction involves the separation of Maersk Training from the Danish shipping and logistics group. Financial terms were not disclosed, and OpenGate did not provide details of the company’s valuation or the financing structure behind the acquisition.

Headquartered in Svendborg, Denmark, Maersk Training provides safety training, competency development and simulation-based learning to customers across the maritime, energy and renewable energy industries. Its programmes combine instructor-led instruction with digital training and virtual reality technologies, supporting workforce preparation for operations where safety and technical competence are critical.

Through Maersk H2S Safety Services, the business also provides outsourced hydrogen sulphide safety services and broader health, safety and environmental support. These activities include on-site supervision, monitoring and safety equipment maintenance for customers operating in potentially hazardous industrial environments.

The acquisition gives OpenGate control of a business whose services are closely linked to regulatory requirements, industry safety standards and workforce competency needs. According to the investment firm, its plans include expanding the company’s activities in markets such as the Middle East and South America, as well as broadening its service offering and customer base.

“We are pleased to complete this acquisition and to welcome Maersk Training to the OpenGate family,” said Andrew Nikou, CEO of OpenGate Capital. “Maersk Training is a global leader in mission critical industrial safety services, with a talented team, deep customer relationships and a reputation for quality and reliability.”

David Skov, CEO of Maersk Training, said the business would retain the standards and operating culture developed during its time within the Maersk group while pursuing opportunities under its new ownership.

“Our Maersk heritage has helped shape our culture and the standards we stand for, and we carry those with us into this next chapter,” said Skov.

For Maersk Training, the ownership change marks a transition from operating within a major shipping and logistics group to becoming part of a private equity portfolio. The company will continue serving customers in maritime and industrial sectors, with OpenGate identifying geographic expansion and service diversification as areas for future development.

The announcement confirms completion of the acquisition but does not specify any immediate changes to the company’s workforce, facilities or existing customer agreements.
