Kongsberg Maritime reports record order backlog amid strong newbuild demand

Kongsberg Maritime reported a record order backlog at the end of the third quarter of 2026, supported by strong demand for marine technology and equipment across several vessel segments.
The Norwegian maritime technology group recorded order intake of NOK 8.32 billion during the quarter, corresponding to a book-to-bill ratio of 1.25. Its order backlog reached NOK 29.75 billion, increasing by approximately NOK 1.35 billion compared with the previous quarter.
Revenue rose 5% year on year to NOK 6.64 billion, supported by higher activity in deliveries to newbuilding projects. Revenue associated with newbuild deliveries increased by 16%, while aftermarket activity declined by 5% compared with the corresponding period of 2025.
Quarterly EBITDA reached NOK 1.04 billion, representing an EBITDA margin of 15.7%. The result included NOK 72 million in restructuring costs associated with the company’s ongoing competitiveness improvement programme.
Lisa Edvardsen Haugan, President and Chief Executive Officer of Kongsberg Maritime, said the company’s third-quarter performance reflected its ability to maintain profitability as newbuilding deliveries increased.
Newbuilding orders drive backlog growth
Demand from the shipbuilding market remained strong during the quarter, with Kongsberg Maritime reporting a book-to-bill ratio of 1.39 for newbuilding orders.
Offshore Energy, Naval & Government and Cargo represented the largest vessel segments in the company’s year-to-date newbuilding order intake.
According to Kongsberg Maritime, the distribution of orders across several vessel categories supports its position in different areas of the shipbuilding market, with customers seeking integrated systems designed to improve vessel efficiency, reliability and operational performance.
The increase in order intake contributed to a further expansion of the company’s backlog, providing visibility for future equipment deliveries.
Edvardsen Haugan said newbuilding contracting activity remained strong during 2026 and that the company continued to benefit from demand for its marine technology portfolio.
Berg Propulsion acquisition completed after quarter-end
Following the end of the reporting period, Kongsberg Maritime completed its acquisition of Swedish marine equipment manufacturer Berg Propulsion AB on 1 October 2026.
The acquisition expands the company’s portfolio of propulsion and electrical systems and will be integrated into its Propulsion & Handling division.
According to Kongsberg Maritime, Berg Propulsion’s technologies complement its existing products and broaden the range of integrated propulsion solutions available to customers across different vessel segments.
The acquisition was completed after the third-quarter reporting period and therefore represents a subsequent corporate development rather than an acquisition completed during the quarter.
Kongsberg Maritime continues to supply technology and equipment for merchant, offshore, fishing and naval vessels, with its latest results reflecting higher demand from newbuilding projects alongside weaker aftermarket activity.
