CFL multimodal launches new rail freight connection between Poland and Luxembourg

CFL multimodal has launched a new intermodal rail freight connection between its Bettembourg-Dudelange hub in Luxembourg and the Schavemaker terminal near Wrocław, Poland, expanding its European transport network.

The first train departed on 20 October 2026, establishing a new connection between one of Poland’s industrial and logistics regions and CFL multimodal’s network serving Western European markets. The service operates four round trips per week, providing regular transport capacity for customers moving freight between the two regions.

Each train can accommodate up to 38 transport units, including containers, swap bodies and both cranable and non-cranable semi-trailers. The ability to carry different types of loading units is intended to support a range of intermodal transport requirements.

New connection strengthens European rail freight network

The Wrocław–Bettembourg-Dudelange service provides customers in Poland with access to CFL multimodal’s wider network through its Luxembourg hub. The company also offers first- and last-mile transport solutions through logistics partners, allowing rail services to be integrated with road transport at either end of the journey.

The new connection is designed to address demand for regular transport capacity and greater flexibility in freight planning. CFL multimodal is positioning the service as an alternative to long-distance road transport on the corridor between Central and Western Europe.

Sven Löffler, Chief Commercial Officer of CFL multimodal, highlighted transport capacity, service frequency and long-term planning as important considerations for customers selecting freight solutions.

According to Löffler, scalability and cost predictability are also becoming increasingly important, with the new Wrocław connection intended to address these requirements.

The service is operated through cooperation between several companies along the corridor. CFL cargo provides rail traction together with Captrain Polska on the Polish section, while terminal handling services are provided by CFL terminals and Schavemaker.

Bettembourg-Dudelange hub supports onward connections

The Bettembourg-Dudelange terminal serves as the Luxembourg gateway for the new connection, linking Polish freight flows with other destinations across CFL multimodal’s European network.

In addition to intermodal rail services, the hub offers secured truck parking with driver welfare facilities, logistics services and customised warehousing solutions. These facilities allow customers to combine rail transport with supporting road and logistics operations.

Reynald Nicolas, CEO of CFL intermodal, emphasised the importance of the wider network accessible through Bettembourg, alongside service frequency and opportunities for onward transport.

The company considers the new route part of its long-term strategy to expand European intermodal connections and encourage the movement of freight from road to rail.

With commercial operations already underway, the Wrocław service adds a regular Poland–Luxembourg connection to CFL multimodal’s network, supported by established rail traction and terminal operating partners.
