Veidekke secures contract to upgrade ferry terminals in Norway

Norwegian construction company Veidekke has signed a contract with Vestland County Council to upgrade the Hatvik and Venjaneset ferry terminals in Bjørnafjorden Municipality, Norway.
The contract is valued at approximately NOK 103 million, excluding VAT, and covers construction and infrastructure works at both terminals serving the Hatvik–Venjaneset ferry route on county road 552.
Work is scheduled to begin immediately, with completion planned for November 1, 2027.
The contract will be included in Veidekke’s order backlog for the fourth quarter of 2026.
Infrastructure works planned at both ferry terminals
The project includes the upgrading and expansion of the existing ferry terminals at Hatvik and Venjaneset.
The scope of work covers the installation of new ferry ramps, extensions to auxiliary quays, foundation works, land reclamation, construction of new abutments and associated technical installations.
Veidekke will carry out the works in cooperation with Vestland County Council and other stakeholders involved in the project.
Hans Aakre, District Manager at Veidekke Bygg Bergen, welcomed the contract award and highlighted the company’s experience in maritime infrastructure projects.
“The Hatvik–Venjaneset connection is an important transport link for the region, and we look forward to delivering the project in close cooperation with Vestland County Council and other stakeholders,” said Aakre.
He also referred to Veidekke’s experience in maritime infrastructure and port construction along the Norwegian coast.
Ferry operations to continue during most construction works
According to Veidekke, most of the construction activities will take place while the Hatvik–Venjaneset ferry service remains in normal operation.
However, the project includes two planned closure periods during which ferry operations will be interrupted.
The company noted that carrying out construction alongside regular ferry operations will require detailed planning, logistics and coordination.
The announcement did not provide specific dates or durations for the planned closures.
Vestland County Council will work with Veidekke throughout the project.
“We are looking forward to starting work at Hatvik and Venjaneset and to working together with Veidekke,” said Cecilie Mathisen, Project Manager for ferry infrastructure at Vestland County Council.
Completion scheduled for November 2027
The project is scheduled for completion by November 1, 2027, following construction works at both ferry terminals.
The NOK 103 million contract will be recorded in Veidekke’s order backlog during the fourth quarter of 2026.
The agreement covers the specified infrastructure upgrades at Hatvik and Venjaneset, including ferry ramps, quay extensions and supporting technical installations.
