Cochin Shipyard completes acquisition of stake in Dutch ship designer Conoship

India’s Cochin Shipyard Limited (CSL) has completed the acquisition of a 23% equity stake in Netherlands-based Conoship International Holding B.V., formalising a strategic investment aimed at strengthening its presence in the European shipbuilding and vessel design market.

The transaction was completed on 28 October 2026, following the signing of a share transfer deed with Conoship’s shareholders. In a stock exchange filing, Cochin Shipyard confirmed that all formalities associated with the acquisition had been completed.

The development follows the Share Purchase Agreement and Shareholders’ and Cooperation Agreement signed on 24 September 2026. The transaction, valued at €2.3 million, had previously received approval from Cochin Shipyard’s Board of Directors in January.

Conoship is a Dutch ship design and marine engineering company whose activities include the design of cargo vessels, tankers, dredgers, ferries and other specialised ships. Its engineering capabilities provide Cochin Shipyard with access to established European vessel design expertise.

The investment is intended to support Cochin Shipyard’s expansion into European coastal and short-sea shipping markets, where vessel efficiency, alternative propulsion systems and specialised designs are important areas of development.

Under the cooperation arrangements announced in September, the companies intend to explore opportunities involving alternative fuels for short-sea vessels, coastal shipping, inland waterways and related marine and offshore applications.

The acquisition establishes a minority equity participation in Conoship rather than full ownership of the Dutch company.

Cochin Shipyard, a major Indian shipbuilding and ship repair company, is expanding its international activities through investments and partnerships involving vessel construction, engineering and marine technology.

The completion of the Conoship transaction marks the formal implementation of the investment agreement announced in September, providing a basis for further cooperation between the two companies in European maritime markets.
