Siem Industries details offshore construction vessel order in China

Siem Industries has released details of its order for two Offshore Subsea Construction Vessels (OSCVs) at Fujian Mawei Shipbuilding in China, expanding its planned fleet of specialised vessels for offshore energy operations.

The two vessels are scheduled for delivery in 2029 and 2030, respectively. Designed to support subsea construction and offshore support activities, they will combine heavy-lifting capabilities with a design focused on operational flexibility and energy efficiency.

The latest announcement provides further information on the vessels’ dimensions, equipment and design arrangements, following the company’s earlier disclosure of the shipbuilding order.

Heavy-lifting capabilities for subsea operations

Each vessel will be equipped with a 400-tonne active heave compensated (AHC) subsea crane and an additional 50-tonne AHC subsea crane. The equipment is intended to support lifting operations in offshore environments where vessel movement must be taken into account.

The vessels will measure approximately 145 metres in length and 27 metres in beam, providing a platform designed for a broad range of offshore construction and support activities.

Sirius Design & Integration has developed the vessel design in close cooperation with Siem Industries and Fujian Mawei Shipbuilding. According to the company, the design prioritises operational flexibility and energy efficiency, allowing the vessels to undertake different assignments across the offshore energy sector.

The announcement does not specify the vessels’ propulsion arrangements, accommodation capacity or additional subsea equipment.

Siem strengthens its offshore subsea activities

The investment represents a further commitment by Siem Industries to the offshore subsea sector, building on its experience in owning and operating specialised offshore vessels.

The planned deliveries in 2029 and 2030 will add two construction vessels with substantial lifting capabilities to the company’s offshore vessel portfolio.

While Siem has confirmed the shipyard, design partner and principal technical specifications, the announcement does not disclose the financial value of the order or identify any future charter arrangements for the vessels.

The project brings together Siem Industries, Sirius Design & Integration and Fujian Mawei Shipbuilding in the development and construction of vessels intended for subsea operations across the offshore energy industry.
