Somec secures new cruise ship interior contracts as order backlog reaches record high

Italian engineering group Somec has announced new contracts worth more than €100 million for its Mestieri division, including two naval agreements covering bespoke interior works on seven cruise ships, one of which remains under option.

The naval contracts, awarded to Somec subsidiary Total Solution Interiors (TSI) by a leading Italian shipyard, have a combined value of €81 million. Additional civil contracts worth more than €20 million cover hospitality, residential and retail developments, primarily in Italy and the United States.

The latest awards have increased Somec Group’s total order backlog to a record level exceeding €1.3 billion, reflecting continued activity across its naval and civil businesses.

Cruise ship projects extend into the next decade

The first naval contract involves interior works on two cruise ships for one of the world’s largest cruise operators. The activities are scheduled to take place between 2027 and 2030.

The second contract covers five cruise ships, including one vessel under option, for a major US cruise line. TSI has previously completed projects for the same operator, and the new agreement extends that commercial relationship.

Execution of the second contract and its associated financial impact will be distributed between 2026 and 2037, providing the division with a long-term pipeline of work.

The agreements concern bespoke interior works rather than the construction or purchase of the vessels themselves. Somec has not disclosed the identities of the cruise operators or the shipyard involved.

Civil contracts complement naval activity

Alongside the cruise ship projects, Mestieri has secured civil contracts exceeding €20 million across the hospitality, residential and retail sectors.

The projects will involve all six companies within the division: Mestieri, TSI, Budri, Ceolin, Lamparredo and Skillmax.

According to Somec, execution and the related financial impact of the civil contracts will be concentrated between the fourth quarter of 2026 and the first quarter of 2027.

The latest awards strengthen the division’s project portfolio while extending the group’s order visibility across both marine and land-based markets.

Oscar Marchetto, Chairman of Somec Group, said the company had secured more than €772 million in new orders during the first ten months of the financial year.

The latest contracts contribute to the group’s record backlog, with the cruise ship interior projects providing a substantial portion of the newly announced business.
