Yangzijiang Maritime expands vessel sales programme with new tanker deals

Yangzijiang Maritime Development has signed contracts for the sale of six newbuild medium-range (MR) tankers with an aggregate gross sales value of US$308 million, continuing its strategy of monetising maritime assets through vessel resales.

The transactions cover two MR tankers of approximately 49,500 deadweight tonnes (DWT) each, scheduled for delivery between 2026 and 2027, and four additional MR tankers of approximately 49,800 DWT each, with deliveries planned for 2027 and 2028.

The latest agreements bring the group’s contracted newbuild vessel sales to 18 ships over a ten-month period, representing an aggregate gross sales value of US$805 million. Yangzijiang Maritime said the transactions are expected to contribute positively to its financial performance, subject to completion, delivery schedules and applicable accounting recognition.

Vessel sales support maritime investment strategy

Yangzijiang Maritime operates a business model focused on identifying maritime investment opportunities, acquiring vessel assets at favourable prices and generating returns through resales, chartering income and capital management.

Executive Chairman and Chief Executive Officer Ren Yuanlin said the company’s approach combines strategic vessel ownership with the ability to realise returns at different points in the maritime market cycle. He added that proceeds from asset sales can support reinvestment in new vessel orders and further investment opportunities.

According to the company’s previously disclosed portfolio figures dated 18 September 2026, its newbuilding portfolio comprised 98 vessels, including options. This consisted of seven delivered newbuilds, 75 firm newbuilds under construction and 16 optional vessels.

Within the 75 firm newbuilds under construction, 12 vessels had been resold, including one that had already been delivered to its buyer under a vessel sale contract. The company also reported that one of the seven delivered newbuilds had been handed over under a vessel sale agreement.

Yangzijiang Maritime did not disclose the identities of the buyers or the individual sale prices of the six tankers. The announced US$308 million represents the aggregate gross contractual sales value and does not constitute recognised profit.

The company expects the vessel sales to support its financial performance as the transactions progress towards completion and the vessels are delivered according to their respective schedules.
