Ernst Russ continues fleet reshaping with containership sale

German shipowner Ernst Russ AG has agreed to sell the feeder containership Mirror as part of its ongoing fleet diversification strategy, which includes the disposal of older container vessels and investments in other shipping segments.
The 2007-built vessel has a capacity of 803 TEU and is scheduled to be delivered to its new owner in January 2027. The identity of the buyer and the transaction price have not been disclosed. According to the Hamburg-based company, the sale will have no impact on its financial position or earnings for 2026, as the vessel’s handover will take place in the following financial year.
The disposal follows the earlier sales of the containerships EF Emira and EF Emma during 2026. At the same time, Ernst Russ has expanded its fleet with multipurpose vessels and product and chemical tankers, reflecting a broader effort to diversify its shipping activities.
The company’s latest fleet addition was the newly built tanker Farrie Russ, delivered on October 27, 2026. These transactions form part of a strategy aimed at maintaining a modern fleet with a balanced exposure to different vessel segments, charter durations and counterparties.
“The sale of MV ‘Mirror’ reflects the disciplined approach we take in developing the Ernst Russ AG fleet,” said Joseph Schuchmann, Co-CEO and Chief Commercial Officer of Ernst Russ AG.
“This includes parting with existing vessels at the right time and adding new tonnage just as selectively. We continuously monitor the market and assess both sale and acquisition opportunities,” he added.
Ernst Russ continues to focus on long-term charter arrangements to strengthen its contracted revenue backlog and improve earnings visibility. Its existing fleet includes containerships of various sizes, multipurpose vessels, product and chemical tankers, and a Handysize bulk carrier.
The company also maintains a pipeline of newbuildings scheduled for delivery over the coming years, supporting its longer-term fleet development plans.
Ernst Russ is scheduled to publish its nine-month financial results and third-quarter investor presentation on November 12, 2026, followed by an earnings call with investors, analysts and members of the press.
