Contship signs agreement to acquire Tarros Group

Contship, through its subsidiary Sogemar, has signed an agreement to acquire the Tarros Group, bringing together two operators with complementary activities in maritime transport and integrated logistics across the Mediterranean region.

The agreement forms part of Contship’s growth strategy and is intended to strengthen its position as an integrated logistics operator. The companies aim to develop a Euro-Mediterranean logistics platform combining maritime services, port operations and inland transport networks, with a particular focus on connections between Europe and North Africa.

The proposed transaction covers the Tarros Group in its entirety, including its operating companies and assets. Completion remains subject to the necessary approvals from the relevant authorities and is expected during the fourth quarter of 2026. The financial terms of the agreement have not been disclosed.

Acquisition brings together complementary logistics networks

Founded in 1828, the Tarros Group operates an integrated transport network across the Mediterranean, providing door-to-door logistics services and maritime connections between European countries and markets bordering the Mediterranean Sea.

The company employs 751 people and serves approximately 2,700 customers through a network covering 16 countries and 31 ports. Its operations span maritime transport, terminal handling and inland logistics, supporting cargo movements across the wider Euro-Mediterranean region.

The acquisition agreement includes Tarros S.p.A. and its foreign subsidiaries, together with Terminal del Golfo S.p.A., Car Box S.r.l., Compagnia Marittima Servizi S.r.l. and Med Logistics Malta Ltd.

Through the transaction, Contship intends to combine these activities with Sogemar’s intermodal network and its existing terminal operations in Italy, Egypt and Morocco. The integration is expected to expand the group’s service offering and strengthen its presence along north–south and south–north logistics corridors connecting Europe and Africa.

Contship targets wider Mediterranean integration

Alberto Musso, Chairman and CEO of the Tarros Group, said the agreement reflects the company’s search for a partner sharing its long-term growth objectives.

He described the proposed combination as an opportunity to bring together Contship’s European operations and Tarros’ established Mediterranean presence within a common logistics platform.

Matthieu Gasselin, CEO of Contship, said the agreement is aligned with the company’s strategy to strengthen its role in integrated logistics. He highlighted the complementary nature of Tarros’ maritime services, Sogemar’s intermodal operations and Contship’s terminal network as a basis for expanding transport connections between Europe and Africa.

The proposed acquisition would broaden Contship’s activities across several stages of the logistics chain, from maritime transport and port handling to inland distribution. The companies intend to use their existing networks and operational expertise to develop a more integrated service offering for customers operating across the Mediterranean.

The agreement has been signed, but the acquisition has not yet been completed. The transaction remains subject to regulatory authorisations and other applicable conditions, with the parties expected to provide further updates as the process advances.
