METLEN and Shell agree on long-term LNG supplies to European markets

METLEN and Shell Global LNG Limited have signed a binding five-year liquefied natural gas (LNG) supply agreement, establishing a long-term arrangement for deliveries to Greece and other European gas markets beginning in 2027.
Under the agreement, Shell will supply METLEN with six LNG cargoes annually, equivalent to approximately 0.6 billion cubic metres of natural gas per year. The cargoes will be sourced primarily from Shell’s US LNG portfolio, providing METLEN with additional supply options for its activities in Southeast Europe and the wider European market.
The agreement follows a memorandum of understanding signed by the two companies in February 2026, which established the framework for cooperation in LNG supply and trading. The new binding arrangement formalises that cooperation through defined annual volumes and a five-year delivery period.
The partnership combines Shell’s LNG supply portfolio, shipping capabilities and international trading operations with METLEN’s commercial presence in Southeast Europe. The arrangement is intended to support METLEN’s diversification of gas supply sources and provide greater flexibility in serving regional customers.
“This agreement with Shell translates our shared ambition into a long-term supply partnership,” said Panayotis Kanellopoulos, Chief Executive Director International Energy Supply & Trading at METLEN. “Combining Shell’s global LNG capabilities with METLEN’s established regional presence strengthens our supply portfolio and gives us greater flexibility to serve Greece and other European markets.”
For Shell, the agreement provides an additional outlet for LNG volumes within its global portfolio, with deliveries directed towards Greece or other European destinations depending on commercial requirements.
“LNG plays a vital role in providing flexible and reliable energy for people and businesses across Greece and other European countries,” said Tom Summers, Executive Vice President for Shell LNG Marketing and Trading. “We are pleased to sign this agreement with METLEN to help supply their customers across the region.”
The companies did not disclose the financial value of the agreement, pricing arrangements, specific receiving terminals or the vessels that will transport the LNG cargoes.
The transaction adds to the development of LNG trading and supply arrangements serving Southeast Europe, where Greece is positioned as an entry point for gas deliveries to regional markets.
