MOL raises annual earnings outlook on stronger shipping markets

Mitsui O.S.K. Lines (MOL) has raised its consolidated financial forecasts for the fiscal year ending 31 March 2027, citing stronger-than-expected market conditions in its dry bulk and energy businesses, alongside an improved earnings outlook for container shipping affiliate Ocean Network Express (ONE).
In a regulatory announcement dated 2 November 2026, the Japanese shipping group revised its full-year revenue forecast to JPY 2.37 trillion, compared with its previous projection of JPY 2.23 trillion announced in August. The revised figure represents an increase of 6.3% from the earlier estimate.
MOL also increased its operating profit forecast by 11.9% to JPY 151 billion, while its ordinary profit projection rose by 31.1% to JPY 295 billion. Profit attributable to owners of the parent company is now expected to reach JPY 300 billion, up 25% from the previous forecast of JPY 240 billion.
The revised outlook reflects more favourable shipping market conditions than the company had originally anticipated, particularly across its dry bulk and energy-related operations.
MOL also pointed to the expected performance of ONE, its equity-method affiliate operating in the container shipping sector. According to the company, ONE is projected to outperform the assumptions incorporated into MOL’s previous financial guidance, supported by firm market conditions.
The announcement did not provide a separate earnings forecast for ONE or quantify the individual contributions of the dry bulk, energy and container shipping businesses to the upward revision.
First-half forecasts also revised higher
Alongside its full-year guidance, MOL revised its consolidated forecasts for the six months ended 30 September 2026.
The company increased its first-half revenue estimate to JPY 1.275 trillion from JPY 1.235 trillion, representing an upward revision of 3.2%. Expected operating profit rose to JPY 72 billion from JPY 65 billion, while the ordinary profit forecast increased to JPY 162 billion from JPY 126 billion.
MOL also raised its forecast for first-half profit attributable to owners of the parent to JPY 178 billion, compared with its previous estimate of JPY 137 billion, an increase of 29.9%.
The revised projections indicate that MOL expects stronger financial performance than previously anticipated across its diversified shipping portfolio. The company attributed the changes to shipping market developments and ONE’s improved earnings prospects, without providing further segment-level forecasts in the announcement.
