ONE expands container reuse options in Switzerland with Avantida

Ocean Network Express (ONE) has introduced container reuse options for its customers in Switzerland through a collaboration with Avantida, allowing import containers to be used for subsequent export shipments.
The arrangement is intended to improve inland container management by reducing the need for empty equipment to return to a depot before being collected again for export operations. It also provides transport operators with additional flexibility when planning container movements between import and export customers.
Through Avantida’s digital platform, transporters can identify opportunities to reuse an import container for an export booking, subject to the relevant shipping line’s approval and operational requirements.
The approach, commonly known as a street turn, can reduce unnecessary empty-container journeys and associated transport costs when suitable import and export movements can be matched.
Extending container reuse arrangements
The latest development extends the availability of container reuse services to ONE customers in the Swiss market, where inland container logistics involve coordination between shipping lines, transport operators and importers and exporters.
Avantida provides digital tools for matching container availability with export requirements, supporting the reuse of equipment rather than requiring separate empty return and collection movements.
The platform also allows transport operators to coordinate reuse requests and obtain the necessary approval from the shipping line before using an import container for an export shipment.
ONE and Avantida said the arrangement is intended to support more efficient planning, reduce waiting times and congestion, and lower operating costs and carbon dioxide emissions associated with unnecessary transport movements.
The companies have not disclosed the anticipated number of container reuse transactions in Switzerland or provided quantified estimates of cost and emissions savings.
ONE has previously worked with Avantida in other markets, including Brazil, where the carrier announced a partnership covering container reuse in September 2025.
The Swiss initiative adds another market to the existing cooperation, with the emphasis on improving the utilisation of container equipment during inland freight operations.
