Venture Global begins commercial operations at Plaquemines LNG

Venture Global has commenced commercial operations at the first phase of its Plaquemines LNG export facility in Louisiana, marking a new stage in the development of the company’s second LNG export project.
Commercial operations began on 31 October 2026, allowing the company to start supplying LNG to the first phase’s long-term customers under their contractual arrangements. The milestone was reached just over 53 months after the project’s final investment decision.
The first LNG cargo to depart following the commercial operations date left the facility at 3:26 a.m. on 1 November and was lifted by Shell.
“Achieving commercial operations at the first phase of our second LNG project in 53 months is a testament to our team’s relentless dedication and hard work,” said Mike Sabel, CEO of Venture Global.
The company described the timeline as one of the fastest for a greenfield LNG development, highlighting the progress made in bringing the first phase into commercial service.
The transition to commercial operations represents an important step for Plaquemines LNG, moving the first phase into deliveries under long-term supply agreements. Venture Global expects the project to contribute to US LNG exports and supply international customers over the coming years.
The announcement concerns Phase 1 of the facility and does not indicate that the entire Plaquemines LNG development has reached commercial operation.
