Rhenus to consolidate logistics operations at new Padua hub

The planned 10,000-square-metre facility at Interporto Padova will integrate transport, warehousing and international freight forwarding activities from early 2027.
Rhenus has announced plans to consolidate its logistics operations in the Padua area of northern Italy into a new integrated hub at Interporto Padova, with the transition scheduled to begin in the first quarter of 2027.
The 10,000-square-metre facility will bring together national and international transport, freight forwarding, warehousing and specialised logistics services currently operating across separate locations in the area.
The project will also expand the group’s operational capacity in north-eastern Italy, connecting road transport activities with air and ocean freight forwarding and warehouse management.
New facility to double existing logistics footprint
The planned hub will replace two existing Rhenus facilities in Padua, located in Corso Spagna and Via Settima Strada, which together provide approximately 5,000 square metres of covered space.
According to the company, the consolidation will increase its covered operational footprint in the area by approximately 100%.
The new platform will allocate 3,500 square metres to road transport activities, 3,000 square metres to Transport Related Warehousing (TRW) and 2,000 square metres to Special Delivery services.
An additional 500 square metres will be designated for activities involving dangerous goods under ADR requirements, while approximately 1,000 square metres will accommodate offices.
The warehousing section will provide capacity for approximately 3,000 pallet spaces.
The facility will also feature more than 30 loading bays and dedicated infrastructure for charging electric forklifts and batteries.
Interporto Padova strengthens multimodal connections
The new location will place Rhenus within Interporto Padova, an established logistics centre connected to major European transport corridors.
The site is positioned along the Mediterranean and Baltic-Adriatic corridors, with access to the A4 and A13 motorways and connections to Venice and Verona airports.
Rhenus intends to use the location to coordinate domestic distribution, European road freight and international forwarding services within a single operational platform.
The company said the integration will support closer coordination between transport operations, warehouse activities and specialised logistics services.
The transition from the existing facilities will be carried out progressively to maintain operational continuity.
Rhenus expects the relocation process to begin during the first quarter of 2027, although the announcement does not specify a final completion date or disclose the investment value.
