Nippon Express completes acquisition of Metro Supply Chain Group

Nippon Express Holdings has completed the acquisition of Canadian logistics provider Metro Supply Chain Group, expanding its contract logistics operations and distribution capabilities across North America.
The Japanese logistics group acquired all shares of Metro Supply Chain Group on 1 October 2026, formally bringing the company under its ownership. The completion was announced on 9 October, following an employee town hall and closing ceremony held in Montreal on 7 October.
The transaction strengthens NX Group’s presence in North America while establishing Metro Supply Chain Group as a central platform for the development of its global contract logistics business.
Acquisition expands contract logistics operations
Founded in 1974, Metro Supply Chain Group is a third-party logistics provider headquartered in Montreal, Canada, with operations primarily in Canada, the United States and the United Kingdom.
The company provides contract logistics services across several industries, including retail, consumer goods, automotive and manufacturing, healthcare, technology and the public sector.
For the financial year ended 30 September 2025, Metro Supply Chain Group reported consolidated revenue of CAD 1.38 billion, equivalent to approximately JPY 158.4 billion at the exchange rate used in the announcement.
Consolidated operating profit for the same period reached CAD 56.4 million, equivalent to approximately JPY 6.49 billion.
The acquisition adds Metro Supply Chain Group’s established logistics operations to NX Group’s international network, particularly in warehousing, distribution and supply chain management.
Metro Supply Chain to support global expansion
NX Group intends to position Metro Supply Chain Group as a core platform for its global contract logistics activities.
The strategy includes applying Metro Supply Chain Group’s fulfilment capabilities and warehouse automation technologies to other parts of NX Group’s operations, including businesses in Europe and Asia.
These capabilities cover order processing, inventory management, shipping and the use of automation within warehouse operations.
The Japanese group also plans to develop additional commercial opportunities by offering international freight transportation, forwarding and customs brokerage services to Metro Supply Chain Group’s existing customers.
At the same time, NX Group intends to use Metro Supply Chain Group’s contract logistics expertise to strengthen distribution and end-to-end supply chain services across its wider network.
The proposed integration measures are part of the group’s post-acquisition strategy and have not been presented as fully implemented.
Integration follows Montreal closing ceremony
The completion of the acquisition was marked by a ceremony in Montreal attended by senior representatives of both companies.
Participants included Satoshi Horikiri, President and CEO of Nippon Express Holdings, and Chiko Nanji, Founder and Group Chairman of Metro Supply Chain Group.
Chris Fenton, Group President and CEO of Metro Supply Chain Group, also attended the event alongside other executives.
According to Nippon Express Holdings, the meeting focused on the group’s strategy and cooperation between the two organisations following completion of the transaction.
With Metro Supply Chain Group now operating as a subsidiary, NX Group plans to expand its contract logistics business while developing additional freight forwarding, customs brokerage and distribution services for customers in North America and other international markets.
