Maersk will introduce and revise its Peak Season Surcharge (PSS) for dry container shipments from the East Coast of South America to the United States and Canada from November 5, 2026.

The measure covers cargo originating in Brazil, Paraguay, Uruguay and Argentina, with the surcharge set at $1,000 per container.

The PSS applies to all dry containers covered by the announcement, including both 20-foot and 40-foot equipment.

Maersk PSS takes effect in November

The new rate will apply from the Price Calculation Date (PCD) of November 5.

For non-FMC and non-spot bookings, Maersk defines the PCD as the scheduled departure date of the first water leg at the time of booking confirmation.

For bookings subject to Federal Maritime Commission rules, the PCD is the last container gate-in date for non-spot bookings. For Spot bookings, the booking confirmation date applies.

The surcharge applies as follows:

Maersk said other applicable surcharges may also apply, including local and contingency charges.

For trades governed by the US Shipping Act or China Maritime Regulations, rates or surcharges differing from the carrier’s tariff are subject to the applicable service contract and regulatory filing requirements.
