CMA CGM raises Asia–Mediterranean freight rates and updates surcharges

CMA CGM has announced an increase in Freight All Kind (FAK) rates for shipments from major Asian ports to the Mediterranean and North Africa, effective from 1 to 14 November 2026.
The carrier has also outlined separate Peak Season Surcharges (PSS) for shipments originating on South America’s west coast and in Northern Europe, with implementation dates in early November.
The announcements cover different trade corridors and cargo categories, with charges varying according to destination, container size and equipment type.
Higher FAK rates from Asia to the Mediterranean
Under the revised tariff schedule, CMA CGM will apply the following FAK rates for shipments from major Asian ports:
| Destination | 20-foot container | 40-foot / 40-foot HC |
|---|---|---|
| West Mediterranean | US$3,900 | US$4,900 |
| Adriatic | US$4,000 | US$5,000 |
| East Mediterranean | US$4,200 | US$5,200 |
| Black Sea | US$4,200 | US$5,200 |
| North Africa | US$5,300 | US$7,100 |
The rates cover dry cargo, refrigerated containers, out-of-gauge shipments and paying empty containers.
According to CMA CGM, the announced FAK rates include basic ocean freight, bunker-related surcharges, EU Emissions Trading System (ETS) charges and Low Sulphur Surcharges (LSS).
Terminal handling charges at origin and destination, safety and security surcharges, and other applicable local or contingency charges are not included.
The revised rates apply to the specified two-week period in November. The announcement does not provide the previous rate schedule, preventing a calculation of the percentage increase.
New surcharges on South American and European routes
Separately, CMA CGM will introduce a PSS of US$150 per container on dry cargo shipments originating from the west coast of South America, effective from 1 November 2026.
The surcharge covers shipments to the east coast of Central America, the Caribbean, Mexico’s east coast, the Leeward and Windward Islands, South America’s east coast, Canada, the United States, Australia and New Zealand.
A further PSS of €150 per TEU will apply from 7 November 2026 to shipments from Northern Europe to North Africa.
For this measure, Spain and Portugal are excluded from the origin range, while Morocco is excluded from the destination range. The surcharge applies to all cargo categories.
Both PSS announcements specify their respective starting dates but do not provide an end date.
The changes introduce different pricing adjustments across the affected trade lanes, with the total cost of individual shipments dependent on the applicable freight rates and additional charges.
