CargoBeamer increases frequencies across European intermodal network

CargoBeamer has expanded rail services on three European intermodal corridors, increasing weekly departures between Germany, Italy and France.
The frequency increases are already in effect and cover the Kaldenkirchen–Domodossola, Calais–Perpignan and Kornwestheim–Milan connections. All three routes accommodate craneable and non-craneable semi-trailers.
The changes increase available rail capacity for freight operators using these corridors.
Kaldenkirchen–Domodossola reaches 22 weekly roundtrips
The largest expansion concerns the Kaldenkirchen–Domodossola connection, which now operates 22 weekly roundtrips.
According to CargoBeamer, the increase makes it the company’s first high-frequency route and places it among Europe’s most frequently operated intermodal rail connections.
Further capacity expansion is planned for 2027, when enlarged terminals at Kaldenkirchen and Domodossola are expected to become operational.
CargoBeamer anticipates that the additional terminal capacity will support further increases in train frequency along the corridor.
Additional services in France and Italy
On the Calais–Perpignan corridor, CargoBeamer has increased operations to eight weekly roundtrips.
This marks the second frequency expansion on the French domestic connection during 2026, doubling the number of services offered in less than six months.
The company plans to increase departures further, with the objective of establishing a twice-daily service pattern.
Meanwhile, the Kornwestheim–Milan connection has increased from four to five weekly roundtrips, providing departures every weekday between the Stuttgart and Milan logistics regions.
Introduced in April 2026, the service was developed as a replacement for the discontinued Rolling Highway connection, providing rail transport capacity for non-craneable semi-trailers.
Higher frequencies support intermodal operations
“High-frequency routes are the key to unlocking the full potential of intermodal transport,” said Tilman Apitzsch, Chief Commercial Officer of CargoBeamer.
The company considers increased service frequencies important for improving timetable reliability and making intermodal rail transport more suitable for time-sensitive freight movements.
CargoBeamer operates rail services across Germany, France, Italy, Belgium, the Netherlands and Romania.
Its intermodal system combines specialised railway wagons, transshipment terminals and logistics software, with a particular focus on transporting semi-trailers that cannot be lifted using conventional crane equipment.
