A.P. Moller Capital has signed an agreement to acquire 100% of Portek International Pte. Ltd. from Mitsui & Co., strengthening its investment portfolio in port operations and transportation infrastructure.

The acquisition will be carried out through the A.P. Moller Capital – Emerging Markets Infrastructure Fund II (EMIF II). The transaction remains subject to customary closing conditions, including regulatory and other third-party approvals. Financial terms have not been disclosed.

Singapore-based Portek operates a diversified portfolio of multipurpose port terminals, with interests in seven terminals across Africa, Asia and Europe. Founded in 1988, the company has operations in Algeria, Gabon, Indonesia, Latvia, Malta and Vietnam.

Portek operates terminals across three continents

Portek’s terminals collectively handle approximately seven million tonnes of bulk cargo, 700,000 containers and 90,000 vehicles annually. The company also provides port engineering, operations and maintenance services, primarily from Singapore and Indonesia.

Portek employs approximately 1,400 people across its terminals and headquarters. Its operations support both domestic and international trade flows, covering several cargo segments.

Following completion of the acquisition, A.P. Moller Capital intends to work with Portek’s existing management and local operating teams to develop the business further. Its priorities will include operational performance, governance, safety, capital discipline and environmental improvements, including emissions-reduction planning.

Semih Gökmen, Partner at A.P. Moller Capital, said the acquisition aligns with the company’s investment strategy and experience in transportation infrastructure.

“Portek is a strong fit with our investment strategy and active owner philosophy,” said Gökmen.

Kim Thagaard Pedersen, Director at A.P. Moller Capital, also highlighted the company’s established positions across its markets and the potential to develop its existing capabilities.

Acquisition expands infrastructure investment portfolio

The proposed acquisition adds to A.P. Moller Capital’s existing transportation and logistics investments, including AC Logistics in the Philippines and Bergé Logistics, which operates in Spain and Latin America.

The company has also recently signed agreements to acquire majority stakes in Globex Investissement and Euroports, further extending its involvement in port and logistics infrastructure.

The Portek transaction has not yet been completed, and A.P. Moller Capital has not announced an expected closing date. Completion remains dependent on the required approvals and satisfaction of the agreement’s closing conditions.
