Viking Line extends Wärtsilä maintenance partnership to another ferry

Finnish ferry operator Viking Line has expanded its cooperation with Wärtsilä through a five-year service agreement covering the passenger ferry Viking XPRS, which operates between Helsinki and Tallinn.

The agreement makes Viking XPRS the third vessel in Viking Line’s fleet to receive tailored lifecycle support services from Wärtsilä, following similar arrangements covering Viking Grace and Viking Glory.

Wärtsilä announced the agreement on 13 October, confirming that the order had been booked during the second quarter of 2026.

Agreement covers engine maintenance and lifecycle support

The five-year arrangement covers the vessel’s Wärtsilä engines and is designed to support operational reliability, maintenance planning and cost predictability.

Services include scheduled spare parts, tailored technical support and a dedicated Contract Manager responsible for coordinating maintenance activities.

The agreement has been structured around the operational requirements of Viking XPRS, which provides passenger ferry services on the Helsinki–Tallinn route.

According to Viking Line, its experience with existing Wärtsilä service agreements has supported a more structured approach to vessel maintenance.

The latest agreement extends that approach to another vessel, with the objective of improving equipment availability and managing maintenance requirements throughout the contract period.

Wärtsilä’s lifecycle support model combines technical expertise, spare parts provision and planned maintenance services under long-term agreements with vessel operators.

The companies did not disclose the financial value of the contract.
