TX Logistik expands Sweden–Italy intermodal rail service

TX Logistik has doubled the frequency of its intermodal rail service between Sweden and Italy, increasing weekly departures on the Frövi–Castelguelfo corridor as part of its cooperation with Finnish logistics company Nurminen Logistics.
The additional service, introduced on 1 October 2026, brings the connection to two weekly departures. Operated as a dedicated block train service for Nurminen Logistics, the route covers approximately 2,500 kilometres, making it the longest continuous corridor in TX Logistik’s European network.
Launched at the end of February 2026, the connection links central Sweden with northern Italy through Denmark, Germany and Switzerland, providing an alternative to long-distance road freight transport.
Additional capacity on the European corridor
The service connects Frövi, in Sweden’s Örebro region, with Castelguelfo, in the Italian province of Parma. Trains operate through Malmö, the Öresund Bridge, Padborg, Hamburg, Basel and Chiasso.
TX Logistik, part of FS Logistix, is responsible for traction services along the entire corridor, using modern multi-system locomotives.
The trains, which regularly exceed 500 metres in length, transport a range of commodities, including food, beverages, tiles, pulp, wood, paper and steel. The service also accommodates part-load shipments within the block train operation.
According to the company, the increased frequency is intended to reduce waiting times and improve connections with road and maritime transport.
“Given the current difficult market conditions for rail freight transport, it is by no means a given that we have been able to operate the service reliably and, together with Nurminen, have now even expanded it,” said Gian Paolo Gotelli, CEO of TX Logistik.
Expanded wagon capabilities and transport flexibility
Alongside the additional weekly departure, TX Logistik plans to introduce a more flexible wagon fleet capable of accommodating dangerous goods and a wider range of container types.
The change is intended to broaden the types of cargo that can be transported along the corridor while providing additional flexibility for logistics operators.
Marjut Linnajärvi, Vice President of International Rail Operations and Sales at Nurminen Logistics, said the additional service would increase available capacity and improve supply chain planning.
“The second weekly service offers customers greater capacity and even greater flexibility in planning their supply chains,” said Linnajärvi.
The Frövi–Castelguelfo connection offers a transit time of approximately two to three days. According to TX Logistik, the rail service also generates significantly lower emissions than long-distance road transport between the two countries.
With the additional weekly departure already operational, the corridor now provides increased capacity for freight movements between Sweden and Italy, supported by connections to other transport modes.
