Girteka orders 900 Mercedes-Benz trucks for fleet renewal

Girteka has placed an order for 900 Mercedes-Benz Actros L ProCabin trucks as part of its ongoing fleet renewal programme, with deliveries scheduled for the first half of 2027.

The agreement was reached during IAA Transportation in Hannover, Germany, and extends the road transport company’s longstanding relationship with Daimler Truck.

The Girteka fleet renewal programme has already seen 500 Mercedes-Benz Actros L ProCabin trucks enter service during 2026. The latest order will bring the combined number of vehicles delivered and scheduled for delivery under these two announced batches to 1,400.

With approximately 6,500 owned trucks currently in operation, Girteka maintains one of Europe’s largest road transport fleets. The company describes its operation as the continent’s largest asset-based road transport fleet.

The investment is intended to support fleet modernisation, driver working conditions and operational reliability across its European transport activities.

Girteka fleet renewal continues into 2027

The agreement for 900 additional vehicles represents the next stage of Girteka’s fleet replacement strategy.

Following the introduction of 500 Mercedes-Benz trucks during 2026, the company expects the next batch to arrive during the first six months of 2027.

The new vehicles will be Mercedes-Benz Actros L ProCabin models, designed for long-distance road transport operations.

Girteka has not disclosed the financial value of the agreement or provided a detailed delivery schedule beyond the first half of next year.

The announcement also does not specify how many existing trucks will be replaced as the new vehicles enter service.

For a fleet of approximately 6,500 trucks, vehicle replacement is an ongoing operational requirement. Girteka’s programme focuses on introducing newer equipment while maintaining its existing European transport operations.

The company handles temperature-controlled and high-value cargo, where it places particular emphasis on vehicle reliability and consistent transport performance.

Edvardas Liachovičius, CEO of Girteka Group, said the agreement reflected the company’s continuing investment in vehicle technology and driver working conditions.

“Working with leading manufacturers allows us to continuously introduce newer technologies into our fleet, improve the working environment for our drivers and maintain the level of reliability our customers expect from us,” said Liachovičius.

He also highlighted the importance of operational consistency for temperature-controlled and high-value shipments.

New trucks focus on driver safety and working conditions

Alongside fleet replacement, Girteka has identified driver safety and working conditions as priorities behind its latest vehicle investment.

The Mercedes-Benz Actros L ProCabin includes driver assistance systems intended to support professional drivers during long-distance journeys.

According to the announcement, these systems can help monitor the vehicle’s surroundings, identify potential hazards and assist drivers in critical situations.

Their operation remains subject to the technical limitations of each system, and they do not replace the driver’s responsibility for operating the vehicle.

The company also points to the importance of vehicle ergonomics and cabin comfort for drivers who spend extended periods working and resting in their trucks.

Modernising the fleet is therefore intended to address both transport operations and the working environment of professional drivers.

For Girteka, the introduction of newer vehicles forms part of its approach to maintaining safety standards across its European road transport activities.

However, the announcement does not provide specific performance comparisons between the new Actros L ProCabin trucks and the vehicles they will replace.

Mercedes-Benz Trucks continues cooperation with Girteka

The latest order extends an established commercial relationship between Girteka and Mercedes-Benz Trucks.

Achim Puchert, CEO of Mercedes-Benz Trucks, welcomed the agreement and emphasised the role of vehicle technology in long-haul transport.

“With the Actros L ProCabin, we provide our customers with a truck that sets new standards in efficiency, safety, and driver comfort for long-haul transportation,” said Puchert.

He also highlighted the importance of service infrastructure and technical support for operators managing large commercial vehicle fleets.

The agreement was concluded during IAA Transportation in Hannover, where commercial vehicle manufacturers and transport operators meet to discuss industry developments and equipment requirements.

Neither company disclosed additional commercial terms associated with the order.

The announcement also did not include detailed information about the trucks’ engine configurations, fuel consumption or expected emissions performance.

Fleet modernisation remains a priority

The Girteka fleet renewal programme will continue into 2027 with the planned delivery of the 900 additional Mercedes-Benz trucks.

Combined with the 500 vehicles introduced during 2026, the latest agreement represents a substantial equipment commitment across two consecutive years.

The programme is focused on replacing and modernising vehicles rather than an explicitly announced expansion of Girteka’s total fleet.

With approximately 6,500 owned trucks, the company operates at a scale where equipment replacement, maintenance requirements and driver working conditions are important considerations in day-to-day transport operations.

The next phase of deliveries is expected during the first half of 2027, although Girteka has not announced a more specific timetable.
