AEGEAN appoints Michalis Kouveliotis as new CEO

AEGEAN has appointed Michalis Kouveliotis as its new Chief Executive Officer, succeeding Dimitris Gerogiannis, who is stepping down after 20 years in the position.

The leadership transition takes effect immediately, with Kouveliotis assuming responsibility for the airline’s executive management following a planned succession process.

Gerogiannis, a founding executive of AEGEAN, will remain involved with the company as an Advisor, supporting the transition to the next generation of leadership.

Kouveliotis takes over following planned transition

Kouveliotis has held senior financial and management positions at AEGEAN for several years, having served as Chief Financial Officer since before the company’s listing on the Athens Stock Exchange.

In early 2025, he was appointed Deputy Chief Executive Officer as part of preparations for the leadership transition.

In that position, he assumed responsibility for coordinating the airline’s business divisions, gaining broader operational oversight ahead of his appointment as CEO.

His promotion represents a continuation of AEGEAN’s internal succession strategy, with the company selecting an executive already closely involved in its financial and operational management.

Gerogiannis remains involved in technical development

Gerogiannis is concluding a 20-year period as AEGEAN’s Chief Executive Officer, during which he played a central role in the airline’s development.

Although he is leaving the CEO position, he will continue to support the company in an advisory capacity.

His responsibilities will include oversight of AEGEAN’s Technical Base and Training Center, an area identified by the group as an important direction for future development.

The arrangement is intended to preserve management continuity while allowing the next generation of executives to assume greater responsibility.

AEGEAN chairman outlines leadership priorities

Eftichios Vassilakis, Chairman of AEGEAN, acknowledged Gerogiannis’s contribution to the company’s development alongside its founder, Theodoros Vassilakis.

He also expressed confidence in Kouveliotis, highlighting his experience in managing the company through periods of growth and challenging market conditions.

According to Vassilakis, AEGEAN’s priorities under its evolving leadership structure will include maintaining service quality, developing its network and destinations, and strengthening cooperation among the company’s executives.

The transition marks a new phase in AEGEAN’s management structure while retaining the involvement of a senior executive closely associated with its development.
