Viking names seven new river ships across Europe and Egypt

Viking has officially named seven new river cruise ships during a coordinated ceremony spanning four countries, marking another milestone in the company’s ongoing fleet expansion across Europe and Egypt.

The ceremony, held on 15 October 2026, was hosted in Amsterdam and connected remotely with vessels in France, Germany and Egypt. The seven ships are Viking Haki, Viking Halogi, Viking Sjofn, Viking Rota, Viking Ptah, Viking Sekhmet and Viking Fjolvar.

The naming event follows a series of vessel deliveries throughout 2026 as Viking continues to expand its river cruise operations.

New vessels assigned to European waterways

Four of the vessels — Viking Haki, Viking Halogi, Viking Sjofn and Viking Rota — are assigned to itineraries along the Rhine, Main and Danube rivers.

Meanwhile, Viking Fjolvar operates on the Seine in France, extending the company’s fleet serving French river cruise destinations.

The Viking Rota was delivered earlier in October 2026. The vessel accommodates 190 passengers in 95 staterooms and forms part of Viking’s Longship fleet.

Viking Fjolvar was delivered in June 2026 after construction at Neptun Werft in Rostock-Warnemünde, Germany.

Nile fleet expansion continues

Two of the newly named vessels are assigned to Egypt’s Nile River.

Viking Ptah is already operating on the Nile, while Viking Sekhmet is scheduled to begin sailing in 2027.

Viking took delivery of Viking Sekhmet in September 2026 at the Massara shipyard in Cairo. The vessel has capacity for 82 guests in 41 staterooms and was designed specifically for Nile operations.

The coordinated naming ceremony included both Egyptian vessels in Luxor, alongside the European ships participating from Amsterdam, Rostock and Les Andelys.

Fleet development remains a priority

The seven naming ceremonies follow Viking’s previously announced programme of river fleet expansion, which includes additional vessel deliveries over the coming years.

The company has indicated that its committed orderbook includes 19 further river ships scheduled for delivery by 2028.

The latest ceremony also recognised travel industry partners appointed as ceremonial godparents, although the principal operational development remains the addition of vessels to Viking’s European and Egyptian river cruise fleets.
