Yangzijiang Maritime Development has placed orders for 11 [additional](https://pelavox.com/yangzijiang-maritime-mr-tanker-vessel-sales/)vessels at Chinese shipyards, expanding its newbuilding portfolio to 111 vessels, including options, as the company continues to develop its maritime investment and asset monetisation activities.

The latest orders comprise four bulk carriers of approximately 82,000 deadweight tonnes (dwt) each and seven Long-Range 2 (LR2) tankers of approximately 114,000 dwt each. Deliveries are scheduled between 2029 and 2030, while the bulk carrier contracts also include options for two additional vessels of similar size.

Following the new orders, Yangzijiang Maritime’s portfolio comprises seven newbuildings already delivered, 86 firm newbuildings under construction and 18 optional vessels. The company noted that 18 of the firm newbuildings have been resold, including one vessel that has already been delivered to its buyer under a vessel sale contract.

The company said the additional vessels will be built in accordance with International Association of Classification Societies (IACS) classification standards and specified technical and environmental requirements. The newbuildings will also incorporate eco-notation features, reflecting the group’s focus on operational efficiency and regulatory compliance.

The investments will be financed through a combination of equity co-investment and debt financing. Yangzijiang Maritime did not disclose the aggregate contract value of the 11 newly ordered vessels or identify the individual Chinese shipyards involved.

## Vessel sales support investment strategy

Alongside its newbuilding programme, Yangzijiang Maritime has continued to pursue vessel sales as part of its asset monetisation strategy. Over a ten-month period, the group signed sales contracts covering 18 newbuildings with an aggregate gross value of US$808 million.

The company uses newbuilding investments and subsequent vessel disposals as complementary elements of its business model, seeking to realise value from vessel assets and reinvest capital in further maritime opportunities.

“Our newbuild strategy is a key differentiator of Yangzijiang Maritime’s business model, enabling us to secure modern vessels at attractive prices and capture value through strategic asset ownership,” said Ren Yuanlin, Executive Chairman and CEO of Yangzijiang Maritime.

Ren added that the company’s approach combines vessel sales with the redeployment of capital into new orders, supporting a recurring cycle of maritime investment and portfolio development.

The additional bulk carriers and LR2 tankers broaden Yangzijiang Maritime’s exposure to dry bulk and tanker shipping segments, while extending its scheduled newbuilding deliveries into the end of the decade.

With a portfolio spanning delivered vessels, firm construction commitments and optional orders, the group is continuing to expand its maritime asset activities while maintaining flexibility through its vessel sales strategy.
