Woodside Energy has signed a 20-year sale and purchase agreement with QatarEnergy for the supply of up to 3 million tonnes per annum (Mtpa) of liquefied natural gas (LNG) from its Louisiana LNG project in the United States.

The agreement covers LNG produced at the export facility under construction near Lake Charles, Louisiana, with deliveries anticipated to begin in 2030, according to QatarEnergy. Woodside will supply the volumes through its subsidiary, Woodside Energy (LA) Investments LLC.

Under the contract, LNG will be supplied on a free-on-board (FOB) basis, beginning with the start-up of Louisiana LNG Train 2. Contracted volumes will subsequently increase to 3 Mtpa following the commissioning of Train 3.

The Louisiana LNG foundation project comprises three liquefaction trains with a combined production capacity of 16.5 Mtpa. Construction is underway, with first LNG production targeted for 2029.

Woodside Chief Executive Officer and Managing Director Liz Westcott said the agreement represented a significant step in establishing the project’s long-term customer base and securing future revenue from its production capacity.

The latest agreement follows an earlier LNG supply arrangement with Germany’s Uniper, adding another long-term customer to Woodside’s Louisiana LNG portfolio.

### Louisiana LNG expands long-term supply arrangements

The agreement provides QatarEnergy with additional LNG volumes sourced from the United States, contributing to its international supply and trading portfolio.

QatarEnergy said the new contract strengthens its position as a buyer of US LNG and supports the diversification of its global supply portfolio. The agreement was marked by a signing ceremony attended by Qatar’s Minister of State for Energy Affairs and QatarEnergy President and Chief Executive Officer Saad Sherida Al-Kaabi, alongside Woodside CEO Liz Westcott.

For Woodside, the arrangement covers volumes from its share of the Louisiana LNG holding company’s production entitlement. The company said the agreement, together with its previously announced Uniper contract, provides long-term revenue visibility for part of the project’s expected output.

The two companies have not disclosed the contract’s financial value or pricing terms.

The agreement establishes a long-term commercial arrangement ahead of Louisiana LNG’s planned production start-up, with the supply volumes scheduled to increase as the project’s second and third liquefaction trains enter operation.
