Wärtsilä Corporation reported a 26% increase in total order intake during the first nine months of 2026, reaching EUR 7.30 billion compared with EUR 5.79 billion in the corresponding period of 2025.

The Finnish technology group also recorded a 22% increase in its order book, which reached EUR 9.88 billion at the end of September. Net sales stood at EUR 4.50 billion, compared with EUR 4.42 billion a year earlier, while the comparable operating result increased by 12% to EUR 623 million.

The comparable operating margin improved to 13.9% from 12.6%, reflecting stronger profitability despite differences in performance across the company’s business segments.

## Marine orders and backlog increase

Wärtsilä Marine recorded order intake of EUR 3.12 billion during January–September, representing a 6% increase from EUR 2.94 billion in the previous year.

The segment’s order book increased by 18% to EUR 4.30 billion, while net sales reached EUR 2.62 billion, compared with EUR 2.56 billion in the corresponding period of 2025.

The comparable operating result rose to EUR 341 million from EUR 321 million, with the comparable operating margin improving to 13.0% from 12.6%.

Equipment order intake increased by 14% during the nine-month period, driven primarily by merchant shipping orders. Service order intake remained broadly stable, with growth in the navy and offshore segments offset by lower activity in cruise.

During the third quarter, Marine order intake declined by 2% year on year to EUR 947 million, although net sales increased by 5% to EUR 913 million.

## Energy business drives group growth

Wärtsilä Energy was the principal contributor to the group’s order intake growth, recording an 86% increase to EUR 4.06 billion during the first nine months.

The segment’s order book expanded by 87% to EUR 5.57 billion, supported by demand for equipment serving data centres and power system balancing applications.

Energy net sales increased by 22% to EUR 1.62 billion, while the comparable operating result rose by 30% to EUR 259 million.

During July–September, Energy order intake more than doubled to EUR 1.42 billion, compared with EUR 644 million in the corresponding quarter of 2025.

## Shipping market conditions support investment

In its interim report, Wärtsilä described the marine market as resilient despite economic uncertainty and geopolitical disruption.

The company highlighted how disruptions in the Middle East and around the Strait of Hormuz continued to affect shipping routes and voyage distances, supporting vessel utilisation and freight market conditions.

Wärtsilä also pointed to continued investment in new vessels, supported by fleet ageing and demand for greater fuel efficiency and operational performance.

Shipowners remained focused on fuel flexibility as they prepared for changing market conditions and regulatory requirements.

Looking ahead, Wärtsilä expects demand conditions in both its Marine and Energy businesses over the next 12 months to remain at levels similar to those experienced during the preceding year.
