Toll Aviation will provide specialist helicopter services under a new long-term partnership with the Royal Flying Doctor Service SA/NT (RFDS SA/NT), supporting aeromedical retrieval operations across Northern Australia.

The agreement follows the award of a 10-year Top End Medical Retrieval Service (TEMRS) contract to RFDS SA/NT by the Northern Territory Government. The contract covers emergency medical retrieval and inter-hospital patient transfers across the Top End, Big Rivers and East Arnhem regions.

Toll Aviation will act as the rotary-wing aviation partner, supplying helicopter capabilities to support the delivery of medical services in remote and regional communities.

## Ten-year contract covers remote communities

The new service is expected to support more than 4,500 patients annually across areas where geographical distances and operating conditions can make access to medical facilities challenging.

Under the partnership, RFDS SA/NT will provide aeromedical expertise, while Toll Aviation will contribute specialist rotary-wing aircraft capabilities.

The arrangement is intended to support the transportation of patients requiring urgent medical care, including transfers between healthcare facilities.

“We are proud to support RFDS in delivering this vital service for communities across the Northern Territory,” said Scott Watkins, Senior Vice President of Toll Aviation.

Watkins said the partnership would combine RFDS’s medical expertise with Toll Aviation’s helicopter operations to support access to emergency healthcare in remote areas.

## Operations scheduled to begin in July 2027

The new contract is scheduled to commence on 1 July 2027, following a transition period coordinated by RFDS SA/NT and its partners.

Toll Aviation has experience providing specialist aviation services in Australia, including emergency response, search and rescue, offshore operations and government aviation activities.

The company will work alongside RFDS SA/NT, the Northern Territory Government and local stakeholders as preparations continue for the new service.

The agreement establishes Toll Aviation’s role in supporting the programme over the coming decade, with operational services scheduled to begin once the transition has been completed.
