Sharjah National Oil Corporation (SNOC) and Norwegian energy company Equinor have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to explore cooperation across the downstream energy sector, including liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) shipping, storage and trading.

The agreement, announced on 20 October, establishes a framework for evaluating potential business opportunities involving LPG, natural gas liquids (NGLs) and other oil and gas products. The areas under consideration include infrastructure, logistics, supply and maritime transportation, alongside opportunities to improve the utilisation of petrochemical storage facilities in the United Arab Emirates.

The companies will also examine selected energy transition opportunities as part of their assessment.

## LPG shipping and infrastructure cooperation

The proposed cooperation aims to combine SNOC’s infrastructure position in the UAE with Equinor’s trading activities, logistics capabilities, equity volumes and access to international markets.

Through the MoU, the companies intend to identify commercially viable opportunities across the gas liquids value chain, with particular attention to storage capacity, supply arrangements and shipping operations.

Khamis Al Mazrouei, Chief Executive Officer of SNOC, said the agreement would provide a platform for pursuing opportunities intended to improve infrastructure utilisation and support the development of the UAE’s LPG sector.

Alex Grant, Equinor’s Senior Vice President Crude, Products and Liquids Trading, highlighted the potential to combine the companies’ infrastructure and commercial capabilities to strengthen energy supply to regional and international markets.

## Companies to evaluate commercial opportunities

The agreement provides for a structured evaluation of possible downstream projects and commercial arrangements.

Both companies have identified energy security, infrastructure efficiency and access to international markets as areas of interest under the proposed cooperation.

The MoU does not announce any specific shipping contracts, vessel investments or new terminal developments. Financial commitments and an implementation timetable have also not been disclosed.

Any future projects or commercial agreements will depend on the outcome of the companies’ assessment process.
