Singapore LNG Corporation (SLNG) has started construction of a third jetty at its LNG terminal on Jurong Island, expanding the facility’s capacity to handle LNG bunkering operations and smaller gas carriers.

The project is scheduled for completion in the second half of 2028 and is designed to support approximately two million tonnes of annual LNG bunker reload demand.

The new jetty will accommodate LNG carriers with capacities ranging from 5,800 to 80,000 cubic metres. It will be the terminal’s first berth dedicated to small and mid-scale vessels.

Once operational, the facility will also support break-bulk activities and other small-scale LNG operations.

## Singapore LNG bunkering capacity set to increase

The third jetty forms part of SLNG’s efforts to expand its LNG handling infrastructure as demand for marine LNG fuel develops.

According to the company, the new facility, combined with existing infrastructure, could enable the terminal to support up to three million tonnes of LNG bunker reload annually, depending on market demand.

SLNG said Singapore was the world’s leading LNG bunkering port in 2025. The company also cited projections indicating that approximately 1,700 LNG dual-fuelled vessels are expected to be operating worldwide by 2029.

Construction officially began with a groundbreaking ceremony on 9 October, attended by SLNG Chairman Gan Seow Kee, Chief Executive Officer Leong Wei Hung and Rotary Engineering Chairman Roger Chia.

Rotary Engineering was awarded the engineering, procurement and construction contract for the third jetty in April 2026.

## SLNG terminal receives Bio-LNG certification

Alongside the construction announcement, SLNG confirmed that its Jurong Island terminal had obtained International Sustainability and Carbon Certification EU (ISCC EU) certification for handling Bio-LNG.

The certification covers LNG storage, regasification and send-out, bunkering and trucking services.

Under the certification framework, Bio-LNG handled through these operations can be traced and accounted for in accordance with ISCC EU requirements.

SLNG said it is also working with industry partners to develop common practices for Bio-LNG certification and accounting across the supply chain.

The third jetty is expected to have Bio-LNG handling capability, allowing the terminal to accommodate both conventional LNG and certified Bio-LNG operations.
