Peel Ports Group has announced that Chief Executive Officer Claudio Veritiero is stepping down after nearly five years in the role and six years with the British port operator.

Mark Whitworth, the group’s Non-Executive Chairman and former Chief Executive, will assume the position of Executive Chairman on an interim basis while the company appoints a successor.

The leadership change follows a period of investment and expansion across Peel Ports Group’s UK port operations, including developments at Liverpool, London Medway and Greenock.

## Leadership transition follows period of investment

During Veritiero’s tenure, Peel Ports Group reported annual profitability growth of 9%, alongside increases in revenue. The company also undertook several infrastructure projects aimed at expanding capacity and supporting cargo operations across its port network.

These included the £28 million Alexandra Complex warehousing development at the Port of Liverpool and a £30 million expansion of roll-on/roll-off facilities at London Medway.

At the Port of Greenock, the group invested £25 million in new ship-to-shore cranes, strengthening the port’s container-handling infrastructure.

Veritiero also oversaw the acquisition of Humber Bulk Terminal, adding to the group’s port and logistics assets.

According to Peel Ports Group, these investments have supported the development of its infrastructure and operational capabilities across the United Kingdom.

## Whitworth to lead during search for successor

Whitworth, who previously served as Chief Executive of Peel Ports Group, will take on executive responsibilities during the transition period.

The company has not announced a successor or specified when a permanent appointment is expected.

Veritiero said his decision to leave followed personal considerations, including a desire to spend more time with his family in southeast England.

“It has been a huge privilege to lead Peel Ports Group through such an important period of sustained growth and transformation, and to work with so many talented, experienced and committed people,” said Veritiero.

He added that he was leaving with confidence in the company’s future.

Whitworth acknowledged Veritiero’s contribution to the business during a period of challenging economic conditions.

“His leadership has continued a period of growth and high performance throughout very challenging times, especially considering the global economy,” said Whitworth.

The company will continue under Whitworth’s interim executive leadership while the process of appointing a new Chief Executive proceeds.
