The new Movianto Bari hub covers 1,000 square metres and includes 14 loading docks. It is also connected to existing distribution centres in Melzo, northern Italy, and the Naples area, creating daily transport links between the three locations. The development forms part of the wider healthcare logistics network operated by Movianto and ETP under Yusen Logistics. ## Movianto Bari hub expands pharmaceutical distribution The new facility operates as a cross-dock centre, supporting the transfer and onward distribution of pharmaceutical and healthcare products. Its location at the Bari Interport is intended to reduce transport distances and delivery times for shipments moving across Puglia. According to the companies, the hub enables daily deliveries to healthcare facilities and pharmaceutical distribution businesses throughout the region. Rather than relying exclusively on distribution operations from other parts of Italy, the new site provides a regional handling point for shipments destined for southern Italian customers. This arrangement is designed to support last-mile distribution by bringing healthcare products closer to their final delivery locations. The facility also provides an additional connection within the companies’ existing Italian distribution network. Movianto and ETP have not disclosed the investment value of the project or the number of employees working at the new location. However, the companies confirmed that operations began on 6 October, with the facility already integrated into their regular distribution activities. ## Temperature-controlled storage and GDP compliance The Movianto Bari hub has been developed to meet the handling requirements of pharmaceutical and healthcare products. The 1,000-square-metre facility includes 14 loading docks and provides two temperature-controlled operating ranges: 15–25°C and 2–8°C. These temperature ranges support the handling of healthcare products requiring controlled environmental conditions during distribution. The hub operates in accordance with Good Distribution Practice (GDP) requirements, which are relevant to the handling and transportation of pharmaceutical products. Temperature control is particularly important for medicines and other healthcare products whose quality may be affected by exposure to unsuitable conditions. The new facility is therefore equipped to handle shipments requiring different temperature conditions within the same regional distribution network. Its cross-docking operations allow products arriving from other distribution centres to be transferred for onward delivery. According to the announcement, the facility supports pharmaceutical supply chains while maintaining the temperature conditions required for the products being transported. The companies have not provided details about the site’s total storage capacity or the volume of pharmaceutical shipments it is expected to handle. ## Daily connections with Melzo and Naples A central feature of the new healthcare logistics hub is its integration with Movianto and ETP’s existing distribution network in Italy. The Bari facility maintains daily connections with the company’s northern Italian hub in Melzo and its southern Italian hub in the Naples area. These links support the movement of pharmaceutical products between northern and southern Italy while providing a regional distribution point for Puglia. The network arrangement allows shipments arriving from other parts of the country to enter the Bari facility before continuing towards pharmacies, hospitals and pharmaceutical wholesalers. Gaetano Colella, Managing Director of Movianto Italy, said the location would strengthen the company’s distribution operations in southern Italy. “Its strategic location enables us to serve pharmacies, hospitals and pharmaceutical wholesalers across the Puglia region every day, while maintaining the high quality and compliance standards our customers expect,” said Colella. He also highlighted the importance of daily connections with Melzo and Naples in supporting the company’s integrated Italian distribution network. The announcement does not specify the number of daily shipments handled through Bari or provide quantitative estimates of transport time savings. Movianto operates as part of Yusen Logistics, while the new hub brings together the healthcare distribution capabilities of Movianto and Eurotranspharma. Bruno Jacques, CEO of Yusen Logistics Healthcare Europe and Deputy Managing Director of Yusen Logistics Europe, confirmed that further investment in healthcare logistics remains part of the group’s plans. “We will continue to invest in Italy and across other European markets to further strengthen our capabilities and network for the benefit of our customers,” said Jacques. The company intends to develop its European healthcare network by combining specialised pharmaceutical distribution services with broader logistics operations. In Italy, the Bari hub adds another operational location to the existing network, alongside Melzo and the Naples area. The facility’s opening expands the companies’ regional distribution coverage while introducing additional temperature-controlled handling capacity in Puglia.
