Meyer Werft has reached a new stage in the construction of Disney Believe, following a keel-laying ceremony at its Papenburg shipyard in Germany on 6 October.

The ceremony marked the start of assembly work on the cruise ship’s second large hull section, known as a gigablock. Construction of the first section had already progressed, with the block moved from the covered building dock to the outfitting quay in September.

Disney Believe is scheduled for delivery to Disney Cruise Line in 2027. The vessel will become the fourth ship in the company’s Wish class.

## Disney Believe construction advances in Papenburg

The new cruise ship will have approximately 144,000 gross tonnage (GT) and accommodate passengers across 1,256 cabins.

During the keel-laying ceremony, representatives of Meyer Werft and Disney Cruise Line placed a commemorative coin beneath the keel, following a traditional shipbuilding custom.

The coin features Tinker Bell, the Disney character selected to appear on the vessel’s bow.

The ceremony was attended by senior representatives of both companies, including Meyer Werft CEO André Walter and Disney Cruise Line Senior Vice President and General Manager Tracy Wilson.

## LNG propulsion for the new cruise ship

Disney Believe will use liquefied natural gas (LNG) as fuel, following the propulsion arrangement adopted for other vessels in the Wish class.

The ship will join Disney Wish, Disney Treasure and Disney Destiny, which were also built by Meyer Werft.

According to the shipbuilder, LNG propulsion is intended to reduce certain emissions compared with conventional marine fuels.

The planned 2027 delivery will add another vessel to Disney Cruise Line’s fleet as the company continues its shipbuilding programme at the German yard.
