Interferry has appointed Marcus Risberg, Chief Executive Officer of Viking Line, as its new President and elected four new members to its Board of Directors following its Annual General Meeting held during the association’s 50th anniversary conference in Bangkok, Thailand.

Risberg will serve a one-year term leading up to the Interferry2027 conference, which is scheduled to take place in Mariehamn, Åland, the home port of Viking Line. Götz Becker of FRS was reconfirmed as Chairman of the Board for another year, while Seamus Murphy of San Francisco Bay Ferry will continue as Vice Chairman.

Mark Wilson of Bay Ferries and Northumberland Ferries will serve as Treasurer.

The leadership appointments were announced following the conclusion of Interferry’s anniversary conference, which brought together representatives of the international ferry industry to discuss regulatory developments, safety, decarbonisation and operational challenges.

### Four executives join Interferry’s board

The association elected four new directors, each appointed for a four-year term, representing ferry operators from Europe, North America and Australia.

Robert Blažinović, President of the Management Board and Chief Executive Officer of Croatian ferry operator Jadrolinija, joins the board with experience in fleet modernisation, digital transformation and maritime operations.

Erik Bombard, Vice President of Operations at Catalina Express in the United States, brings extensive experience in vessel operations and maritime safety, including his background as a licensed Master Mariner.

Chris Carbone, Chief Executive Officer of Spirit of Tasmania in Australia, joins with experience in logistics, transport operations and fleet development.

Kasper Moos, Chief Executive Officer of P&O Ferries in the United Kingdom, has also been elected. A Master Mariner, Moos brings more than three decades of experience in shipping and ferry operations.

The newly appointed directors will participate in the association’s work representing the ferry sector on international maritime policy, safety standards and environmental regulation.

### Outgoing directors recognised

Interferry also acknowledged three outgoing directors whose terms have concluded.

They are Greta Bedard of STQ Ferries, Terry MacRae, formerly of Hornblower, and Supapan Pichaironarongsongkram of Chao Phraya Express Boat in Thailand.

Mike Corrigan, Chief Executive Officer of Interferry, welcomed the new board appointments and highlighted the importance of industry cooperation as ferry operators respond to evolving regulations and decarbonisation requirements.

The association said its 50th anniversary conference reflected the international ferry industry’s continuing focus on operational safety, environmental performance and collaboration between operators.

### Next conference scheduled for Åland

The election of Marcus Risberg as President comes ahead of Interferry’s next annual conference, which will be hosted in Mariehamn in 2027.

Interferry represents more than 300 companies and over 2,200 individuals across more than 40 countries. The association holds consultative status at the International Maritime Organization and participates in maritime policy discussions concerning ferry operations, safety and sustainability.

According to the association, the global ferry sector transports more than four billion passengers and approximately 370 million vehicles annually.

The new appointments establish Interferry’s leadership structure for the coming year, while the four incoming directors begin their longer four-year terms on the board.
