ID Logistics has entered into a strategic partnership with Terra Robotics to test the application of humanoid robots in contract logistics, with an initial pilot under real operating conditions planned at a German logistics facility within six months.

The agreement, effective from 1 November 2026, follows approximately one year of cooperation between the companies and initial tests involving two humanoid robots trained to perform sorting tasks. The partners now intend to evaluate how the technology could be applied to repetitive warehouse processes before considering broader deployment.

The first operational pilot will take place at an ID Logistics facility in Germany, although the specific location, robot model and task have not yet been selected. The companies will initially assess four to five potential applications and determine their technical and operational requirements.

### Two humanoid robots tested on warehouse sorting

The collaboration has already involved two Unitree G1 EDU6 humanoid robots, with each company investing in one machine.

The robot named IDA is based at ID Logistics in Griesheim, while Heinz is located at Terra Robotics in Löhne. Both robots were programmed in parallel by the companies’ technical teams to carry out the same sorting process.

Following these initial tests, the robots can distinguish between cardboard cartons and mailer bags, identify the different packaging types and place them into shipping boxes using five-fingered robotic hands equipped with tactile sensors.

The companies consider the demonstration an initial step towards identifying warehouse activities suitable for humanoid robotics, particularly tasks involving repetitive movements and the handling of different packaging formats.

“By working simultaneously with two identical robots, our teams were able to align their programming methods and make progress together in developing an initial sorting process,” said Murat Arpaci, CEO of Terra Robotics.

### First operational pilot planned within six months

The next phase will focus on selecting a suitable warehouse application for testing under real operating conditions.

ID Logistics and Terra Robotics will examine four to five possible use cases, establish their technical requirements and identify the task offering the most appropriate starting point for the pilot.

The selected robot will come from Terra Robotics’ portfolio, which includes humanoid models from manufacturers such as Unitree and UBTECH. Both companies will jointly develop the programming required for the chosen application.

The pilot is intended to evaluate the technology’s practical capabilities and limitations in a functioning logistics environment, providing information that could support decisions on future applications.

Robin Otto, CEO of ID Logistics Germany, said contract logistics offers opportunities for humanoid robotics because many warehouse activities involve standardised and repetitive processes.

“We aim to identify suitable tasks, test these technologies under real-world conditions, and then deploy them on a larger scale,” said Robin Otto, CEO of ID Logistics Germany.

### Partnership targets wider logistics applications

Beyond sorting, the companies have identified order picking, packing and other value-added warehouse services as potential areas for investigation.

However, these applications remain possibilities for future development rather than confirmed operational deployments.

ID Logistics operates approximately 450 logistics facilities across 20 countries, including 17 sites in Germany, giving the company an international operational network in which successful technologies could eventually be evaluated for wider use.

The partnership will combine ID Logistics’ experience in warehouse operations with Terra Robotics’ expertise in humanoid systems and robot programming.

The companies have not disclosed the financial terms of the agreement, the cost of the planned pilot or any timetable for commercial deployment beyond the initial testing phase.

The project represents an early-stage effort to determine whether humanoid robots can perform selected warehouse tasks reliably under everyday operating conditions, with future expansion dependent on the results of the planned pilot.
