Huisman has secured a contract from Siem Industries to supply four knuckle boom cranes for two newbuild offshore support vessels currently under construction at Fujian Mawei Shipbuilding in Fuzhou, China.

The equipment package comprises two 400-tonne knuckle boom cranes with below-deck winches and two auxiliary 50-tonne cranes designed for deepwater operations. All four cranes will be manufactured at Huisman’s production facility in Zhangzhou, Fujian Province.

The main cranes will feature full-load active heave compensation, intended to support offshore lifting operations by compensating for vessel movements. They will also offer hook travel of up to 3,000 metres and a high-lift mode for handling large loads at greater heights.

Additional features include Huisman’s fifth-generation motion controller, LiDAR-based active collision avoidance, and systems designed to reduce power fluctuations on the vessel’s electrical grid. The cranes will also incorporate load peak shaving and lift-off boost functions to support lifting operations in challenging offshore conditions.

“The Siem companies and Huisman have shared a strong business relationship for decades,” said David Roodenburg, CEO of Huisman. “We greatly appreciate the continued confidence Siem places in our company and are honoured to continue our partnership through the award of this contract.”

The two vessels form part of Siem Industries’ offshore construction fleet development programme. As previously announced, the newbuilds are scheduled for delivery in 2029 and 2030 and are intended for subsea construction and offshore support operations.

The latest contract identifies Huisman as the supplier of the vessels’ principal lifting equipment, following Siem Industries’ earlier announcement outlining the newbuilds’ design and technical specifications.

Neither the financial value of the crane contract nor the equipment delivery schedule was disclosed.
