GEODIS is expanding its electric truck operations in Australia with the introduction of a Volvo FM Electric prime mover, extending its battery-electric fleet into container haulage in the Sydney area.

The vehicle will become the third electric truck in GEODIS’ Australian fleet and will primarily transport full container loads from Sydney’s Port Botany to a Volvo warehouse. The deployment marks an expansion of the company’s existing electric transport activities into heavier-duty freight operations.

According to GEODIS, the Volvo FM Electric is expected to complete approximately 850 trips annually carrying Volvo cargo. These journeys will account for around 63% of the vehicle’s available operating capacity.

The remaining capacity will support GEODIS’ new warehouse in Minto, located next to Volvo’s facility, serving the company’s retail and e-commerce logistics operations.

### Expanding electric freight operations in Australia

The introduction of the Volvo FM Electric builds on GEODIS’ existing partnership with Volvo Trucks Australia, which has supported the deployment of electric vehicles for freight transport in the country.

In 2023, GEODIS introduced its first Volvo FE Electric truck in Australia to transport components between its operations in Matraville and Volvo Group Australia’s parts distribution facility in Minto.

A second Volvo FE Electric truck followed in 2025, supporting the movement of components and sub-assemblies between Brisbane Airport and Volvo’s manufacturing facility in Wacol.

The latest addition extends the scope of the partnership from component distribution to full-container transport, using a heavier-duty electric prime mover for movements between port facilities and inland warehouses.

GEODIS said the vehicle offers zero tailpipe emissions and reduced noise during operation, providing an alternative to conventional diesel-powered trucks on metropolitan freight routes.

The Sydney deployment will also support the company’s expanding warehousing and distribution activities in Minto, linking container transport from Port Botany with its retail and e-commerce logistics operations.
