US liquefied natural gas producer Cheniere Energy has announced two long-term sale and purchase agreements (SPAs) with QatarEnergy covering a combined four million tonnes per annum (mtpa) of LNG through the end of 2054.

The agreements were signed through Cheniere subsidiaries Sabine Pass Liquefaction (SPL) and Corpus Christi Liquefaction (CCL), with each company contracted to supply QatarEnergy with 2 mtpa.

Deliveries are scheduled to begin in the early 2030s, establishing a multi-decade commercial relationship between the two energy companies.

Under the contracts, QatarEnergy will purchase LNG on a free-on-board (FOB) basis, with prices indexed to the Henry Hub natural gas benchmark plus a fixed fee.

## Long-term commitments from US export facilities

The agreements cover LNG production from Cheniere’s Sabine Pass and Corpus Christi export facilities, both located on the US Gulf Coast.

Of the 2 mtpa contracted from Sabine Pass, 1 mtpa remains conditional upon a positive final investment decision for the first phase of the Sabine Pass Expansion Project.

The remaining contracted volumes are not described as subject to that particular investment condition in the announcement.

Jack Fusco, Chairman, President and Chief Executive Officer of Cheniere Energy, described the agreements as a significant long-term commercial commitment.

“These pivotal, multi-decade agreements with QatarEnergy, one of the world’s most important energy companies and a cornerstone of the global LNG industry, represent a major long-term commercial commitment and reinforce Cheniere’s position as the leader in U.S. LNG,” said Fusco.

## Sabine Pass expansion plans

Cheniere is developing an expansion of its existing Sabine Pass liquefaction complex through Cheniere Energy Partners.

The proposed expansion is expected to provide up to approximately 20 mtpa of additional peak LNG production capacity, including estimated debottlenecking opportunities.

If completed as planned, the expansion would increase the overall production capacity of the Sabine Pass project to more than 50 mtpa.

Cheniere expects to develop the project in phases, with the first phase comprising Train 7, a boil-off gas re-liquefaction unit and associated infrastructure.

The initial phase is expected to provide more than 6 mtpa of production capacity, including estimated debottlenecking opportunities.

In May 2026, Cheniere signed a lump-sum turnkey engineering, procurement and construction contract with Bechtel Energy for the first phase.

Bechtel was subsequently authorised to begin early engineering and procurement activities under a limited notice to proceed.

The new agreements with QatarEnergy extend Cheniere’s contracted LNG supply commitments well into the second half of the century, while part of the Sabine Pass volume remains dependent on the planned expansion reaching a positive investment decision.
