Bureau Veritas Marine & Offshore (BV) has launched a Cruise Center of Excellence in Miami, bringing together technical and advisory expertise to support cruise operators, shipyards and designers across vessel development and operations.

The new centre will provide cruise industry customers with local access to BV’s international network of specialists. It joins the classification society’s existing Centers of Excellence covering gas and offshore activities in Doha, Singapore, Shanghai and Kuala Lumpur.

Its areas of expertise include vessel design, decarbonisation, fire safety, evacuation arrangements and operational performance. The centre will also support the adoption of emerging technologies, digitalisation and cybersecurity solutions across cruise operations.

BV said the initiative is intended to connect expertise from different parts of its organisation, including capabilities related to ships, ports, terminals and infrastructure. This approach will allow the centre to support projects from their initial design stages through construction and operational service.

The launch follows several technical projects involving passenger vessels. BV has provided monitoring and validation support to MSC Cruises for the independent verification of methane emissions from *MSC World Europa* and *MSC Euribia*, supporting compliance with FuelEU Maritime requirements.

The classification society has also worked with Brittany Ferries and Adrena on a digital twin-enabled voyage routing solution, with reported fuel savings of up to 6%.

In addition, BV provided classification services for the 220-metre *Orient Express Corinthian*, a sailing cruise ship equipped with three rigid sails covering approximately 4,500 square metres. Its involvement included design review, construction surveys and noise and vibration measurements.

Alex Gregg-Smith, President of Bureau Veritas Marine & Offshore, said the new centre reflects the organisation’s continued investment in the cruise sector and its efforts to bring technical capabilities together to support safer and more efficient operations.

The Miami centre will serve as a dedicated point of access to BV’s wider expertise as cruise operators address evolving safety, environmental and technological requirements.
