Associated British Ports (ABP) has announced two leadership appointments across its Humber container operations, introducing a new regional management position and appointing a new manager for Immingham Container Terminal (ICT).

Jamie Pearson has been appointed Head of Unitised Operations (Humber), a newly created role intended to strengthen the company’s container and unitised cargo activities across the ports of Immingham and Hull. Alex Pickett has been promoted to Immingham Container Terminal Manager, succeeding Pearson in the position.

The appointments come as ABP continues to develop its Humber container terminals, which the company says have recorded growth of more than 40% over the past five years.

## Strengthening container and unitised operations

In his new position, Pearson will oversee unitised operations across the Humber, including the region’s two border control posts and potential future Ro-Ro opportunities.

The newly established role reflects ABP’s focus on short-sea shipping connections and the Humber’s position as a gateway for cargo moving to markets in northern England and the Midlands.

According to ABP, its container terminals at Immingham and Hull collectively handle 26 vessel calls each week, providing connections to destinations across Europe and beyond.

The company has invested £50 million in its Humber container terminals, including expenditure on new reachstackers and terminal management systems. The facilities support more than 500,000 TEU annually, according to ABP.

Pearson, who has worked for the company for nine years, will also focus on attracting new customers and developing business opportunities across both deep-sea and short-sea shipping markets.

“We want to continue growing our container terminals by attracting new customers and developing new opportunities,” said Jamie Pearson, Head of Unitised Operations.

## New management at Immingham Container Terminal

Alex Pickett takes over responsibility for the day-to-day management of Immingham Container Terminal, following an 11-year career with ABP.

Pickett joined the company as a mechanical apprentice and most recently served as Engineering Lead, overseeing crane-related engineering activities at the terminal.

His appointment brings existing technical and operational knowledge of ICT into the terminal’s management structure.

Colin McLoughlin, Head of Operations, Humber, said the appointments would provide dedicated strategic leadership for unitised operations while maintaining a focus on the safe and efficient operation of Immingham Container Terminal.

The management changes form part of ABP’s continuing efforts to strengthen its Humber container business and develop opportunities across its existing maritime and logistics operations.
